On 08 July 2014, 15 people including the current Bentong Member of Parliament Wong Tack were charged for protesting against Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP) in the Kuantan Sessions Court. 10 of them were charged under Section 145 of the Penal Code and 5 others under Section 147 of the same. On 06 July 2018, all 15 were found guilty and fined between RM1,500 and RM1,600. An appeal was filed against the conviction. On 13 March 2019, all 15 withdrew their appeal against the government. During their case at the Sessions Court in Kuantan, Mr Chan Chee Koon, a former professor at University Malaya with a strong list of credentials was called to give evidence on whether the plant is safe.
