Under threat from increasing urbanisation, fishing villages along the southern coast of Penang have become one of the last of its kind. Tucked along a bay where many varieties of fishes, prawns, mussels, shellfishes and crabs thrive, Tuan Haji Zakaria calls this place a “golden area”. Tuan Haji Zakaria is a 63 year old fisherman who hails from Sungai Batu. His father was also a fisherman and the surrounding fishing village has depended on the wealth of the sea for many generations.
